In 1991, I was lucky enough to move into Kirkwood with my two young boys, drawn to the stellar schools and neighborhood feel. I taught high school English for 15 years, my last six at Kirkwood High School, and my boys and my stepchildren went all through Kirkwood schools, graduating from Kirkwood High School in 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2008. While they were students, I was active in the PTO and other district events. Now, I am finishing up my second mayor-appointed term on the City of Kirkwood Human Rights Commission and also serve as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for children in the Foster Care System.
In both my personal and professional life and in my volunteer service, I have been focused on children--protecting them, empowering them, supporting them. I hope to continue that work as a member of the Kirkwood School Board. I know the importance of hiring and retaining great teachers, and I know that parents are our partners in everything we do. Finally, I understand the responsibility of the School Board to be good stewards of the funds provided by the passing of Prop R in April 2021.
I believe that it takes a village and that we are lucky to live in a village such as Kirkwood. As a village, we must listen to one another, understand our differences, and try to find common ground. At the end of the day, my priority will always be what is best for the children.
